Third Ear Project is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization located at Fort Worden State Park in Port Townsend, WA. For the last four years we have been the Olympic Peninsula’s local resource for Intentional Communication, offering classes, workshops and other services to various groups and the general public.
Quite often the question was raised, “Why didn’t we learn this in school?”, and for that reason, among others, we are mainly focused on bringing this essential life skill into K-12 schools. We are still quite interested, willing and able to provide training for any group that requests it, but our outreach efforts are focused on creating optimal learning environments in our schools.
Founded by Alex Bryan in 2007, our aim is to promote personal and community well-being by teaching simple yet powerful communication skills, thereby increasing social and emotional intelligence that supports the natural tendency of all humans towards empathy, compassion and cooperation. When there is not enough education, modeling or other support for these essential qualities in our families, schools or communities, then we can easily slip into other modes such as judgment, blame, competition, coercion and violence.
